Must be in a California mood today…planning some trips down there and can’t wait to see friends and family. Here is my inspiration for the day.
You can buy it here…unless I get to it first!

So not wanting to feel so down about Japan (seriously have a hard time watching the news), I figured I would pick some of my favorite images of Japan. I am choosing to be inspired today. All these images are from etsy and many artists on there are donating proceeds to support Japan. Donate. Buy. Pray.

Love the beginning of the year, when you can start fresh and forget about frustrations of the last year. I especially love the gift of new calendars for Christmas…don’t think I have bought a calendar in years. This year I received two eco friendly calendars, starting the year off green. Hard to be me.
My first lovely gift, is so innovative. You can plant the paper after the month is over and you will have fresh wildflowers. Not only do I get to keep on track, I get flowers to brighten the month. What girl doesn’t love flowers:)
Next in the stocking, Mademoiselle Vintage Magazine Calendar…copies of the hand-painted covers. So chic! Excited for when the year is over and I can frame them for my bathroom…or closet(even little spaces need artwork).
And just for fun…a wall decal calendar(didn’t get this one, but wish I did). Also wish I had thought of it, some people are so creative.
Now, I just need to start planning my year. My mind is reeling with all the possibilities of what could happen this year. What does this year have in store for you?

Weekends in Leavenworth usually mean a walk around the loop enjoying the lovely scenery, while breathing in all the fresh air. Maybe we will see some wild life or friends from high school…always fun with no make-up on:) My last couple of walks, I have been checking the progress of this new house going in…look closely…what are the walls made of?
Yes folks, those are haybales…
Think my dad’s horses might have found a new feeding ground.
Interesting, right? Can’t wait to see what it looks like once the siding is on. Check out this site, if you want more info on how to build a house out of hay! Eat up!

This recipe brings me back. For college graduation presents, I decided to create a cookbook for all my girlfriends of the recipes I had been cooking them through college. Halfway into the project, I asked myself…why!?!?! Turning into this massive formatting project and I wanted to throw them out the window at the end of it all. So much so I never made myself one, thankfully I did keep the electronic version…so I can always remember not to do this again:) (Now there are much easier ways to do it but back then there weren’t sites like, www.tastebook.com)
Now this is one of those gems. Think this recipe is from fryer packaging…maybe. Who knows but all I know, is that I crave this sometimes. So good and something different to do to a whole chicken, rather than roast it. Now I am off to make it for dinner…enjoy!

Serves 4
1 Whole chicken
1 Tablespoon oil
1/3 Cup soy sauce
1/3 Cup brown sugar
1/2 Cup water
1 Tablespoon ketchup
1/4 Cup dry sherry or apple juice
1/2 Teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 Garlic clove pressed
1 Green onion sliced
2 Tablespoons cornstarch
1 Tablespoon water
2 Teaspoons toasted sesame seeds
1. Heat oil in Dutch Oven, brown chicken on all sides.
2. Mix together soy sauce, brown sugar, water, ketchup, sherry, red pepper, garlic, and green onion. Pour mixture over chicken. Cover, simmer 35 to 45 minutes.
3. Remove chicken to platter, drain juices back into pan. Skim fat from sauce. Blend together cornstarch and water, stir into sauce.
4. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened. Spoon some sauce over chicken, sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve chicken with remaining sauce.
